New Minnesota Legislation Introduced to Modernize Statute

Posted over 6 years ago by Marci Newcome

The Minnesota 2019 legislative session is in full swing! Right now, the Minnesota Legislature is considering legislation that would build on the patient gains enacted in previous sessions. Here’s what’s important to know and where the legislation is in the process:

Senate File 1966 (S.F. 1966) and companion House File 1914 (H.F. 1914)

  • Senate File 1966 and the companion bill House File 1914 have been introduced in the legislature. This is the 3rd set of clean up bills brought forward by APRN Coalition to the Minnesota legislature. The two “clean-up” bills would update multiple chapters of Minnesota statute references to include advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). This legislation would also further clarify Minnesota APRN signature authorization.
  • S.F. 1966 has been referred to the Senate Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee.
  • H.F. 1914 was heard last Tuesday by to the House Health and Human Services Policy Committee. Brian Goodroad, APRN Coalition President was there to address questions from committee members.

AANP members can track this and other NP legislation on the AANP State Legislation Tracking Center. Local AANP NP organizations may have added information. AANP member organizations can be located through the Member Directory.

The AANP State Government Affairs team will monitor any proposed changes as these bills move through the legislative and regulatory process. We will continue to inform Minnesota members of further developments to the state practice environment.

For questions regarding these bills, please contact APRN Coalition at admin@mnaprnc.org.

We are proud to partner with APRN Coalition on legislative efforts.
