Job Description CRNA Coverage

Duration Full-time/Week-long coverage preferred, flexible options available

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) to provide coverage for general anesthesia services, with the option for weekday clinical shifts and weekend on-call coverage. This position will primarily involve MD-directed anesthesia for a variety of cases, including adult and pediatric populations (preferred for pediatrics but not required).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general anesthesia coverage for adult and pediatric patients (pediatrics preferred but not required).
  • Handle both weekday clinical work shifts (typically 7 am-3 pm) and on-call coverage (overnight, including weekends).
  • Deliver anesthesia for various procedures, including general, OB/GYN, epidural, ortho/spine, ENT/cataract, podiatry, GI, pain management, and dental cases.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals in a team-based care environment.
  • Respond to beeper call with a 20-minute response time (hotels 5 minutes from hospital).
  • Participate in the MD-directed care model, providing anesthesia for 3-4 rooms per day, with a focus on general anesthesia and bread-and-butter cases.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort during procedures and report directly to supervising anesthesiologist.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Expertise in General Anesthesia, including adult and pediatric (preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with a broad range of anesthesia cases, including OB/GYN, ortho/spine, and GI.
  • Comfortable working in an MD-directed care model.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required.

Credentialing Timeframe 60-90 days

EMR System Epic

Coverage & Call Details

  • Beeper/Pager Call 20-minute response time from home/hotel; MD is 1st call, CRNA is 2nd call.
  • Call Volume Typically light, as CRNAs are 2nd call.
  • Shift Commitment Full-time preferred. Flexible shift commitments for local candidates, with a minimum of 7 consecutive days required for out-of-town candidates.
  • Weekend Call Coverage 24-hour weekend call coverage needed.

Clinical Environment

  • ORs 5 operating rooms, 1 c-section suite, 3 GI procedure rooms.
  • Patient Census Primarily adults and healthy pediatric patients (age 2 and older).
  • Patient Volume Approximately 8.5 cases per day on average.
  • Support Staff At least one anesthesiologist and two CRNAs on weekdays, along with other hospital staff including ED physicians, APCs, radiologists, OB/GYN, hospitalists, and others as necessary.
  • Care Model MD-directed anesthesia care; CRNAs are supervised 100% of the time.

This role may require flexible scheduling, but we prefer candidates who are able to commit to one full week at a time, especially for out-of-town candidates.
