Speakers

April J. Odom, MSN, APRN-FPA, CRRN, FNP-BC is a Family Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of healthcare experience. She has worked as a pharmacy technician, certified nurse assistant (CNA), registered nurse (RN) and is currently practicing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN-FPA) with Full Practice Authority. During her nursing career she gained experience in inpatient rehabilitation, home healthcare, outpatient surgery, emergency medicine, leadership and as an instructor teaching the future of nursing as co-founder of Competent Healthcare. April has been a preceptor for many nurses and has been both a mentee and mentor. She is the current Vice-President with Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nurses (ISAPN) and an active participant on multiple committees. April is the Mentoring chair of Professional Women’s Network (PWN), a member of American Academy of Nurse Entrepreneurs (AANE), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and Illinois Obesity Society. April co-founded Train, educate and mentor (T.E.A.M) nurses a non-profit organization that focuses on training and educating health professionals, educating the community and mentoring the next generation. April is the CEO of Physicals Plus, a health and wellness clinic where she focuses on preventing chronic disease by offering vitamin therapy, medically supervised weight loss and comprehensive care for families, including house calls to the senior population. April teaches American Heart Association (AHA) approved cardiopulmonary (CPR) courses, business and other educational courses for health professionals and entrepreneurs as CEO of Odom Education and Consultants where she guides other aspiring business owners. April is the recipient of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) Magnusen Award (2014), PWN Ignitor Award (2019), Illinois Nurse Foundation (INF) 40 under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders Award (2019) and Pinnacle Nurse Leader Award (2020). In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. She loves traveling, planning events and trying new restaurants.
